Julia joined LSKS in 2011 after receiving her Masters of Laws (LL.M.) from Columbia University School of Law, where she concentrated on media litigation, intellectual property and national security law. While studying at Columbia, Julia interned in the United Nations’ International Justice Program with Human Rights Watch. At LSKS, Julia’s practice focuses on defending news, publishing and other media companies in defamation and copyright cases, as well as against subpoenas directed to journalists.
Julia previously worked as a solicitor at the Australian-based law firm Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Sydney, where she represented and counseled clients concerning defamation, intellectual property, and other content-related matters.
Notable Representations
Psihoyos v. John Wiley & Sons, Inc. (S.D.N.Y. 2012). Julia, Chris Beall and a team of LSKS attorneys represented LSKS’s textbook publishing client against copyright infringement claims arising from the publication of photographs in a seven-day jury trial. In considering the alleged infringements, the jury returned verdicts for both the publisher and plaintiff and awarded the plaintiff substantially less in damages than he had sought.
