Shaina D. Jones
Shaina defends media clients against a wide range of claims, including defamation and invasion of privacy, and assists clients in obtaining access to court and government records.

Prior to joining LSKS, Shaina served as a law clerk to the Honorable Raymond A. Jackson of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Before beginning her legal career, Shaina worked as an assistant news desk producer for NBC Network News and MSNBC in Washington, DC.

Notable Representations

Naked Cowboy v. CBS, et al., 844 F. Supp. 2d 510 (S.D.N.Y. 2012). Shaina and Robert Penchina successfully obtained dismissal of trademark and right of publicity claims against CBS and the company that produces the daytime television show The Bold and the Beautiful brought by the Naked Cowboy, a well-known New York street performer.

Sims v. Viacom, 2012 WL 280609 (W.D. Pa. Jan. 31, 2012). Shaina, Robert Penchina and Michael Berry won dismissal of claims for copyright infringement, alleged violations of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and unjust enrichment based on plaintiff’s claim that Viacom copied his treatment for a reality show when it broadcast the show “Charm School” on VH1.

Farley v. Kate Kendell & National Center for Lesbian Rights, (W.D. Va. Dec. 6, 2011). Shaina and Jay Ward Brown successfully defended the National Center for Lesbian Rights in a defamation action arising from a blog post that appeared on the Center’s website. After LSKS filed a motion to dismiss the case on jurisdictional grounds, the plaintiff withdrew the suit.
